Meeting Ketesa (by Brett)

Today we met Ketesa Wondimu, the child sponsored by our Crew and Munchies. It was a very sad situation, indeed, with a silver lining of hope now that we have met him and know the needs of his family. Seven year old Ketesa lives with his mother, grandmother, and sister Aritu. His father has passed as have 3 of his other siblings. His eyes both wander severely away from center. Combined with shyness, this made it difficult to connect at first. We found out he loves to run, so I challenged him to a foot race, and he showed me up (Last night I lost in ping pong on the streets of Dilla, I can't win in this country). A little soccer and frisbee broke the ice further. I will let Becca Little tell you the rest of the story. I was glad to have her there with me to ask questions as she hopes to be Ketesa's ambassador to the youth group to help address his family's needs further with their help. Along with Lorraine our valuable guide, we are beginning to develop a plan to help Ketesa. I am really looking forward to meeting my own sponsored child tomorrow morning.

If all goes well, I will post some pictures on facebook from an exciting day of visits to children, health care sites, deep well sites, and reading camps all supported by WV.
