Today we visited my sponsored child Abinezer. His father came out to greet me warmly and welcomed me to his home, followed by his mother. Chairs and benches were carried out to the front yard for us to sit. Abinezer was very shy . He was noticeably dressed in new clothes and new shoes. Since he seemed uncomfortable, I asked his father about his crops. He raises banana, mango, avocado - then added that they bought a bull to plow - using the Christmas gift we sent. (Our gift was enough for a bull... AMAZING) There are now 2 younger siblings. After a little jump rope and some kicking around of a soccer ball , I finally found out that English is Abinezer's favorite subject, soccer his favorite game. He goes to the Literacy Booster Program on Saturdays (which reminded me of Reading Partners). This little boy who lives in a grass hut wants to be a pilot!
I thought -how similar he is to kids anywhere- how little it costs me to help fulfill a dream and improve this family's life. I have been brought to tears repeatedly this trip, and this was no exception.
